The product is good, but beware of counterfit copy of MSDN. Bella Villa I bought this in February and did not discover that it was developed by a copy of June. This means that the operation is limited in time. There is no way to move forward, apparently genuine, sealed packaging, a key, holograms, etc. Shame on Microsoft for packaging copies stupid work the same retail copies, and allow this situation to exist. I have installed Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit on my MacBook Pro and this possibly could be the best OS I have ever used (including the Apple Snow Leopard).

If you have a system that has at least 2GB of memory with at least a Intel Core 2 Duo processor (most laptops that isn’t a netbook sold in the last 3 years would fit that bill), then you are far better off with a 64 bit Windows 7 (not 32 bit). I have tried both the 32 bit and 64 bit Windows 7 on my MacBook Pro (2.8 Ghz, 4GB of RAM, Nvidia 9600GT 512 VRAM) and the 64 bit runs noticeably faster and more smoothly than the 32 bit. The reason is the 32 bit Windows 7 can only use upto 3GB of memory. Futhermore, the 64 bit Windows utilizes the 64 bit CPU (almost every CPU, including from AMD, is a 64 bit these days) more efficiently as well. I can run multiple applications with very little lag and the only bottleneck seems to be the disk.

If you have really old DOS based 16 bit legacy or incompatible 32 bit application for Windows 7, then you can download the “XP Mode” (just Google it) from Microsoft free of additional charge. It will install a Virtual Machine that will run a separate 32 bit Windows XP that can run both 32 bit and 16 bit applications. In effect, you can run two operating systems on the same computer. This would come VERY handy if you are running the 64 bit Windows 7 but it wouldn’t so useful if you decide to install the 32 bit Windows 7 version since it can run 16 bit applications on its own (Windows 7 64 bit can’t run 16 bit applications without the XP Mode).

The Mac OS (Snow Leopard) still holds the edge in battery life as I have almost no direct control over the motherboard GPU (Nvidia 9400 GT) with Windows 7. In effect, the Windows 7 runs hotter and gives my MacBook Pro a shorter battery life than the Snow Leopard. Still, my MacBook Pro (2009 model) still can run 5.5 hours with Windows 7 64 bit. It will last even longer with the 2010 MacBook Pro.

This box comes with both 32 bit and 64 bit Windows 7 ultimate. If you already have Windows Vista installed on your computer, then you should get the upgrade version instead which is substantially cheaper.

If you trying to purchase a new Windows computer, then I highly recommend getting one with at least 4GB of memory and the Windows 7 64 bit version.

A Excellent Operating System!

I upgraded from Windows Xp to Windows 7, and the results are dramatically improved. From ease of use, better customizing and personalization, to exponentially improved multitasking. I use my PC for gaming purposes mostly, and multitasking or shrinking screens while a game was active was tedious and caused a lot of lag, but now I can multitask between internet, files, and games without so much as a hiccup. This is an excellent software, a true must have!

I replaced Vista 32 (business) on my laptop and Win XP Pro (SP3) on my desktop with Win 7 Ultimate 64. My impression of Win 7 is that it is just a debugged and refined version of Vista with more bells and whistles. I have been using PCs since 1982 and I think the best OS I have used so far is Win XP Pro. I would have preferred MS to improve on XP instead of improving and adding more stuff to Vista. Maybe my opinion will change after I use Win 7 longer. Right now I can say that Win 7 seems to be a stable, decent OS with excellent drivers support.

Finally!! A decent operating system from Microsoft. I love the way windows 7 works. It finds all its own drivers for my stuff and so far all of my programs are compatible with it. I do not have any more problems with my system crashing and not running programs properly like Vista. My machine also starts up and loads programs much faster with Windows 7, compared to Vista. As a computer tech I still consider XP to be Microsoft’s most reliable platform; however I think Windows 7 is going to be a good second.

I have windows 7 Ultimate on both my HP HDX 18 (64 bit) and my Acer Aspire One (32 bit). It has made such a dramatic improvement on the aspire one in performance, battery life, and overall usability. I also love it on my HP, although I have had some issues there regarding drivers from HP (but that is due to some of HP’s proprietary technologies on the specific model which they did a poor job of providing drivers and software for windows 7). Aside from software issues caused by HP’s laziness, I also love windows 7 on my HP HDX 18. It is an excellent performer. The computer is so fast, and I can do a lot at once and the system is very stable. I used to be a mac user and was very critical of windows/Microsoft products, but windows 7 has certainly changed my opinion. I recommend it to all of my friends who struggle with Vista.

I upgraded from XP to 7. Previously, I downgraded to XP from Vista, because it was simply so bad. The features are great, the design is intuitive, and the compatibility is seamless with XP. Great for gaming and general productivity.
